An Introduction
Dosha! (Hello)
I am Miranda Koltze, owner/founder of Sweetgrass Soapery LLC. What began as a little homestead dream of mine and my husband, Alex's, has quickly become a great endeavor of sustainable soap and healing products!
Somewhere around 15 years ago, we gained our first homestead sized property in Sioux Falls, and started a CSA Garden, joining community in local farmers markets. Alex, has great passion for sustainable growing and holistic farming methods. We had our first daughter, and our interest grew into creating our own household and personal care products, using the resources of our own property and hands.
I have background in practices like canning, dehydrating, freezing and preserving our own foods. Growing up on cattle ranches in Western ND & SD, with an enormous adopted family gave me great experiences and homesteading skills. We yearly canned our own salsas, pasta sauces, veggies, meats and more! I experienced the full food cycle from farm to table, in incredibly remote, wildly beautiful settings!
Soap was a total fluke of a skill that I stumbled upon while holding to my values to find a purpose for all parts of an animal, as well as the herbal relatives I had at my fingertips. It awoke a passion that became my own obsessive hobby and grew into Sweetgrass Soaps shortly after!
I joined our largest local farmers market as a handmade, herbal soapmaker and the market became a catalyst for more creative growth and demand. 5 years later, I had a loyal customer base and confidence to open my own retail shop! Sweetgrass Soapery LLC. was formed and we embarked on an adventure in retail ownership.
When making plans for the shop opening, I knew I had to prioritize my Native community and with space to spare, I decided to offer culturally needed herbs, tools, beading supply and more. I also work with local artists and crafters to make a really beautiful place that I am proud to call Sweetgrass Soapery & All Walks Trading Co.!
I continue to be sole formulator and have a small crew of employees to help keep shop and learn and grow into makers themselves. We continue to nurture a sustainable homestead on a bigger scale now with Sweetgrass Farm, my husband's passion and my quiet place.
We have 2 sweet daughters, that have grown up with our ambition and confidence, making them invaluable to our business as well! From toddlers sleeping under tables at market, to full grown ladies that are so kind, helpful and engaging <3
You will find us all at the Falls Park Farmers Market every Saturday from the first weekend in May to the last Saturday in October. I have just signed up for our 10th season with the market, its amazing how fast the time has gone!
