Cinnamon sticks are often used for infusing flavor and elegant garnishing. They provide a warm sweet and spicy aroma and flavor. Delicious when used in hot beverages, fruits and jams, or slow cooked dishes.

Cinnamon has been traced back to ancient civilizations in Sri Lanka and Egypt. Though cinnamon is considered a common household spice today, it was once considered to be a gift for kings because of it's rarity and value.

Many people enjoy combining cinnamon bark with hot water, honey, and other herbs to make a sweet and spicy cinnamon tea. A festive way to use cinnamon bark is to combine it with hot apple cider or mulled wine to create a warm, cozy fall beverage.

Cinnamon is known to contain a high level of multiple types of antioxidants. According to recent studies, cinnamon has a much higher level of antioxidants than more common spices, including oregano and garlic.

Modern research has shown that cinnamon could help stabilize blood sugar levels when consumed regularly. This is due to the fact that cinnamon helps slow down the breakdown process for carbohydrates during digestion.

Adding more cinnamon to your diet may help to fight fungal and bacterial infections thanks to cinnamaldehyde, one of the primary active components. Cinnamaldehyde  is connected to the effective treatment of respiratory infections as well as inhibiting the growth of bacteria like Salmonella and Listeria.

Cinnamon may also be able to help reduce inflammation in the body due to its high level of antioxidants. Regularly including cinnamon in your diet could lead to reductions in chronic pain, swelling, and soreness, among other ailments.

In general, there are no known health risks associated with consuming cinnamon, especially since the typical serving size is 1 or 2 teaspoons per day.

If you have pre-existing kidney or liver problems, you may want to consult with your doctor before increasing the amount of cassia cinnamon in your diet.  If you notice any allergic reactions to cinnamon, such as irritation around the mouth or throat, seek medical attention immediately.
